Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1555 and Service Employees International Union Local 1021 had been on strike since Monday, when the unions' previous four-year contracts expired.

After ongoing negotiations ended just before 11 p.m. Thursday, BART management and the unions agreed to extend the previous contract for 30 days while both sides continue working toward a new contract.
