About “A Series of Walks”
“A Series of Walks” is a three-poem cycle written in Oakland in the first part of 2005, after I spent a couple weeks in Vancouver in late December and early January. My girlfriend and I obsessively read and study local free weekly papers whenever we visit a city, to try to get a sense of its culture and humor. Vancouver had a great paper called Terminal City, which referred to Vancouver as “the Couve.” The city was basically in hibernation while we were there, so the listings were pretty sparse, but there was a really funny year-in-review feature that gave us a sense of what we were missing. “A Series of Walks” follows us around Vancouver at the distance of memory.
