L.A. is the new N.Y.C. This is what I’ve read in several publications, not all of which were produced in Los Angeles. The latest demonstration of this shift in the national art market is currently on view at the Oakland Museum. L.A. Paint, an exhibition of 10 Los Angeles based artists, was curated by Philip Linhares who, in a recent interview, kindly told me more about why New York may, for the first time ever, be defending its “Heavyweight Champion of the Art World” title.

The exhibition includes work by artists Esther Pearl Watson (my new fave), Loren Holland, The Date Farmers (my reigning fave), Robert Williams, Hyesook Park, Steve Galloway, Brian Fahlstrom, Steve Roden, Don Suggs, and Linda Stark. L.A. Paint is on view at the Oakland Museum through March 8, 2009.
