Xxxtentacion was shot and killed Monday, June 18, in Florida.

Florida rapper XXXTentacion was shot in his car in Miami on Monday, and died from the gunshot wounds. Broward County police confirmed the 20-year-old's death at 5:39pm Eastern Time.

Born Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy in 1998, XXXTentacion was beset by public controversies as well as open about his struggles with depression. He reached a large audience of mostly young listeners, outgrowing the "Soundcloud rapper" tag to release a hit album, 17, on San Francisco's EMPIRE imprint which reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200. Its follow-up, ?, reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

In 2016, XXXTentacion was charged with aggravated battery of a pregnant woman, domestic battery by strangulation, false imprisonment, and witness-tampering, which led to many commentators calling for his being held accountable amidst widespread silence from the music industry. The charges were among many legal issues in the rapper's life.


According to reports, XXXTentacion was leaving a motorcycle dealership in Miami when he was shot by a man who fled on foot.
