Nick Hakim’s neo-soul songs are laid back and trippy. As Kevin Jones says, he’s like Al Green (or his musical hero, Marvin Gaye) drenched in LSD. On Hakim’s album Green Twins, he updates 1970s style with an indie production vibe to create a groovy, crooning-in-a-cave sound, perfect for a long walk through a park with headphones on, or an intimate moment at home.

I love this pickup line from his song “Bet She Looks Like You.” “If there’s a god, I wonder what she looks like, I bet she looks like you.” For his shows at The Independent in San Francisco and the Starline Social Club in Oakland, details here.
