October brings the return of two of our favorite SF festivals: Hardly Strictly Bluegrass and the Treasure Island Music Festival. Both are local traditions that promise quality music offerings, and while we’re including bands from both in this episode, the whole episode could have been devoted to either festival’s prospective highlights. Beyond those two, and TIMF’s related night shows and pop-up shop parties (like, ahem, the rock and roll bingo party we are presenting), other local highlights include a record release show for Mike Donovan, who has stepped out from Sic Alps to offer his solo debut, Wot, on Drag City.
Other notable concert picks come from as far away as the Netherlands, with Dutch psych-pop artist Jacco Gardner bringing the kaleidoscopic Cabinet of Curiosities to The Chapel. Unlike Gardner, the band Overseas is a domestic outfit; while the group’s name may not ring a bell, its band members’ names and CVs — David Bazan of Pedro the Lion, Will Johnson of Centro-matic, and Bubba and Matt Kadane of Bedhead and The New Year — likely will.
Enjoy the podcast and then go see some concerts!
