For me, stories are lies in the service of the truth. I tend to begin writing from an observation, an idea or an episode and it picks up embellishments as it rolls along the page. Digression is the staff of life. Except for verifiable fact, there’s no need to get the actual accurate because language automatically trumps memory. I live in the world, then the “line” takes over. These stories didn’t happen, except on the page, but they might have. -Gloria Frym
