World AIDS Day Commemorations Around the Bay - December 1

A number of commemorations for World AIDS Day are planned tomorrow.

At noon, people will gather at the National Aids Memorial Grove in Golden Gate Park:

And throughout the day there will be events in the Castro:

As part of “Paint the Castro Red” some businesses there have signed on to donate 10-15% of their sales to the 30AIDS organization. There will be a candlelight vigil and a video booth where people can share their stories about how HIV has impacted them. There will also be free HIV testing at QBar from 5-8pm, and speakers in Harvey Milk Plaza at 6:30pm.

Across the Bay at UC Berkeley, there will be a free screening of the 2011 documentary “We Were Here”:

Other events:

  • The Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley will hold a Healing Service
  • Oakland Museum of California will screen a one hour documentary by contemporary artists about HIV/AIDS throughout the day.
  • San Mateo County will unveil an AIDS Memorial Quilt constructed by incarcerated women at the Women’s Correctional Center
