Now in its third year, Portola Music Festival is coming back to San Francisco’s Pier 80 on Sept. 28-29, and tickets go on sale May 17.
The two-day musical bonanza — which is organized by Goldenvoice, the company behind Coachella — brings some of the world’s most beloved DJs and electronic acts to the City by the Bay. This year, headliners include a panoply of international stars and turntable orchestrators, along with notable emerging (and re-emerging) acts.
Saturday kicks off with headliners RÜFÜS DU SOL, an Australian three-piece band whose live sets are known for an epic opulence and experiential, outdoor energy — as seen in this cinematic Joshua Tree performance.
Other performers on opening night will include French DJ and producer Gesaffelstein and JPEGMAFIA, the experimental Baltimorean rapper who was formerly known as Drake’s biggest hater before Drake’s disastrous beef with Kendrick Lamar.

An honorable mention goes to the Bay Area’s very own Deltron 3030, who’ll be playing their first local show in a decade at Portola. The trio consists of Oakland’s Del the Funky Homosapien, San Francisco’s Dan the Automator and DJ Kid Koala. They made a surrealist, sci-fi rap classic with their self-titled 2000 album, and earlier this year, Del and Dan made a rare appearance together on 88rising’s latest project.
