"Becoming American" in Northern California

In the saga of American immigration, the Chinese experience is relatively unknown. The Bill Moyers Special, Becoming American: The Chinese Experience explores this fascinating and dramatic story of struggle and triumph, progress and setbacks, separation and assimilation, discrimination and achievement. Becoming American is a story about identity and belonging that will resonate with all Americans. The Chinese, like every other immigrant group, seeks to find a balance between the values and practices of its own heritage, and those of its adopted country.

KQED Education Network is proud to support this program with an extensive outreach campaign, including workshops for teachers, child care professionals and parents, lesson plans, a community screening and media salon.

The three-part series aired on KQED Public Television 9 on March 25, 26 and 27, 2003.
