Local author's visit to Afghanistan
Norman Solomon, author and Director of the Institute for Public Accuracy, visited Kabul a week after Afghanistan's disputed presidential election in August. Since then, a United Nations investigation found widespread fraud and a runoff election is scheduled for November 7th. Solomon shares his observations and discusses the debate over the upcoming election and the Obama administration's imminent decision on whether to send more US troops. Sebastião Salgado
The exhibition "Then and Now" at the David Brower Center in Berkeley features work by acclaimed photographer Sebastião Salgado. Salgado is known for images that reveal the human condition - from laborers in Latin America to refugees from war and famine in Africa and elsewhere. In the tradition of social documentary photography, he often makes his work available to social change organizations, such as Doctors without Borders, Amnesty International, and UNICEF.
