Hetty Wainthropp Investigates
Armed with little more than her pocketbook and her prodigious common sense, Hetty Wainthropp (Patricia Routledge) is the Lancashire housewife-turned-detective who has proved that she can easily match wits with the best of them - even if she has to take the bus to get to the scene of the crime.
In these tales, Hetty goes undercover, demonstrating her continued fearlessness in the face of criminal offences. Still by Hetty's sdie are her recently retired husband Robert (Derek Benfield) and Geoffrey Shawcross (Dominic Monaghan), the teenager rescued by Hetty from a dodgy career of shoplifting and who now lives with the Wainthropps and acts as Hetty's investigating sidekick. Based on characters from the 1986 novel Missing Persons by David Cook (who co-wrote the series with John Griffith Bowen). The incidents in Cook's book were inspired by his own mother's real-life experiences.
