This program examines the major issues surrounding the current swine flu outbreak. The World Health Organization has officially declared the outbreak a global pandemic. Worldwide about 3000 people have died as of September. Normal flu seasons kill more than 30,000 people in the US alone every year. And the concern is that the swine flu could be even more deadly. But even if it stays relatively mild, this swine flu scare should serve as a wakeup call to implement highly effective strategies and scientific programs with the potential to permanently protect humans from any killer flu. This program looks at the real experiences of rolling out the H1N1 vaccination program this fall and points to lessons for the future.
