    • Mon 5/06: very brief KQED DT9 OTA outage

      (DT9.1, 9.2, 9.3) This morning we had a very brief outage of our over the air (OTA) coverage for KQED 9.1/9.2/9.3, which lasted apx 4 minutes. Most tuners will have found the channel again as soon as service was restored, but some may need to be rescanned for channel 9. This outage did not affect [...]

    • Mon 4/22: KQEH OTA signal back on air

      (DT54.1 through DT54.5) The Over the Air (OTA) signal from our KQEH transmitter on Monument Peak was restored at apx 6:35pm this evening. Most tuners should automatically find the signal, however some OTA viewers may need to do a rescan to restore reception.

    • Mon 4/22: KQEH OTA planned overnight outage extended

      Unexpected technical problems have been discovered at the KQEH transmitter site during planned maintenance overnight.  KQED crews have identified the problem and are working to correct it as soon as possible. Please check back to this blog for status updates. Service to Comcast and other providers are uninterrupted.

The tedium of working the nightshift is no match for the ingenious clerks that work at an all-night grocery store. The employees do a whole lot more than stack the grocery aisles. Unsuspecting shoppers are in for quite of a surprise once they get to the checkout line. Directed by Beppe Tufarulo. Principal cast: Giampiero Judica, Lucia Mascino, Francesco Mandelli, Maurizio Lombardi and Hal Yamanouchi.
CENTRIFUGE BRAIN PROJECT - Germany
The centrifuge brain project is a scientific experiment that started in the 1970s. It involves an amusement park to enhance people's brain capacity (or in other words blow your mind). The goal is to create an experience of total freedom, cutting all connection to the laws of gravity (and reality). Written and directed by Til Nowak. This is Til Nowak's second film to appear on Imagemakers (his first was the animation Delivery in season five). Principal cast: Leslie Barany.

While short in length, it does not lack for impact or lack or laughter. Written and directed by Anselm Belser. Principal cast: Felix Muller, Daniela Blaschke and Paul Ohmert.
LITTLE BOY AND THE BEAST - Germany
Since little Haro's dad has left, his mother has completely changed. Divorces are always difficult and painful but when your mother and father are actually monsters... that makes life even more difficult. He discusses the pros and cons of having monsters as parents, but deep down wishes he had normal parents. The award winning film is directed by Uwe Heidschotter and Johannes Sweiland.
HELLION - USA
All hell breaks loose after three brothers tape their babysitter to the side of the house. Petey is the youngest of three boys in his family and he must survive his older brothers' slash and burn approach to the world. These older boys are rebellious in a way that is both terrifying and intriguing to Petey. He must decide if he wishes to become just like them or remain the sweet innocent child in the eyes of his father. A dark tale about the destructive seeds of machismo. Written and directed by Kat Chandler. Principal cast: Arthur Dale, Deke Garner and Jonny Mars.
SIX DOLLAR FIFTY MAN - New Zealand
Set in the 70s at the height of popularity of the TV series "Six Million Dollar Man," a gutsy eight year old misfit is forced to break out of his make believe superhero world to deal with playground bullies. Writer and director Mark Alison and Louis Sutherland capture the innocence, wonder and bravado of kids that don't fit in. The film won the top prize at numerous film festivals including Sundance, Cannes, Berlin and Aspen. Principal cast: Oscar Vendee Connor, Celina Russo Berwick, Carmel McLane and Thomas Limber.

WEST OF THE MOON - USA
The memory of a long lost love triggers an old man to recall the odd set of circumstances that led to his having a grenade as a heart and a monkey inside his head. A wildly inventive and visually amazing film inviting comparisons to the work of Terry Gilliam and Tim Burton. The film is directed by Brent Bonacorso and based on the book of children's essays entitled The Colored Monster Has No Mouth by Roger Omar. Principal cast: Jacob Whitkin, Michael Garbe, Amber Noelle, and Christopher Tomafelli. West of the Moon won the top prize at five film festivals in 2011.
EGG BREAKERS - Germany
A game of one-upmanship gets out of hand. In a surreal landscape two creatures learn that if eyelids were lips at the same time, they would also be able to lay eggs ... say what?! Animated by Emanuel Strixner.

LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT - England
It's not everyday you fall in love, but in 70-year-old Arthur's case he can and does. When he spots Ruth in the retirement home, he knows in his heart he has finally found his soul mate. Directed by Michael Davies, the short film shows that you are never too old to fall in love. Principal cast: John Hurt, Phyllida Law, and Barry McCarthy. Love at First Sight won the top prize at six film festivals and was shortlisted for a 2012 Academy Award.
DANNY & ANNIE - USA
In a simple analogy, the old Brooklynite Danny Perasa says that marriage is like color TV. Once you have it, you never want to go back to black and white. He has been married to Annie for 25 years. The couple recounts their life together from their first date (on which Danny proposed) to Danny's final days with terminal cancer. This remarkable couple personifies the eloquence, grace, and poetry that can be found in the voices of everyday people. Directed and animated by brothers Mike and Tim Rauch.

He loses his job, but comes to the realization that imperfections are what give character and make something special and unique. This goes for diamonds... and for people.
