Cremona (Episode #102H)

KQED Plus: Sat, Oct 7, 2017 -- 2:30 PM

In this episode of "On the Road with Vic Rallo," Vic visits the quaint town of Cremona. Situated a little over an hour outside of Milan, it is a trip worth taking. Amidst the majestic Duomo and Italy's tallest brick bell tower, Vic sits down and speaks with the mayor in its historic piazza. Known for the Guarneri and Stradivarius violins and violas made there during the 16th-18th centuries, you can still find hundreds of artisans crafting the stringed instruments at their workbenches throughout the city's narrow streets. Music lovers come from all over the world to study music, visit the world's largest violin museum, or to simply enjoy a concerto in a violin-shaped amphitheater. Cremona is also the home of Auricchio provolone. You will meet Alberto Aurrichio and see the production of a 500 lb. provolone. History, travel, food and fun...all from Cremona. Recipe: Chef Sergio prepares Pasta Napkins with provolone and zucchini fonduta.

Recipes include tortelli and pigeon.
