A Symphonic Journey (#102H) Duration: 56:46 STEREO TVG

Rick Steves, America's leading authority on European travel, teams up with the Cascade Symphony Orchestra and maestro Michael Miropolsky for a musical journey that begins in the United States, and touches down in seven different European countries. The special, taped at the Edmonds Center for the Arts near Seattle, Wash., celebrates music's power to stir the patriotic soul. Playing musical tour guide, Steves utilizes his extensive knowledge of European history and culture to help set the context for each piece. Then, the orchestra performs a selection of stirring 19th-century anthems by Romantic-era composers, including Grieg, Smetana, Strauss, Berlioz, Elgar, Wagner and Verdi. Each selection honors a particular nationality, while the finale, Beethoven's "Ode to Joy" (Europe's official anthem) pays homage to the continent's motto of "United in Diversity." The music is accompanied by a montage of evocative video images from each country.

The Holy Land, Israelis and Palestinians Today (#103H) Duration: 56:47 STEREO TVG

This program weaves together both the Israeli and the Palestinian narratives to better understand a place that is, for a third of humanity, literally holy land. The crossroads for 3 great religions, the Holy Land has been coveted and fought over for centuries.
Host Rick Steves visits the major sights, but delves deeper to better understand and empathize with both peoples. In Israel, he goes from the venerable ramparts of Jerusalem to the vibrant modern skyline of Tel Aviv. In Palestine, by harvesting olives near Hebron, visiting a home in Bethlehem, and popping into a university in Ramallah, he comes to know a land few tourists visit. And all along the way, he learns about security walls, disputed settlements, and the persistent challenges facing the region as Israelis and Palestinians learn to coexist peacefully.

Iran (#104H) Duration: 56:46 STEREO TVG

Rick journeys to Iran in the hopes of getting to know this ancient country - a leader in its corner of the world for 2500 years - and to better understand the 70 million people living there. Shot in Tehran, Shiraz, Esfahan, Persepolis and villages in between, it details the country's rich artistic and cultural heritage.
Rick visits the splendid monuments from Iran's rich and glorious past, discusses the 20th-century story of this perplexing nation and explores Iran's bustling cities, historic capital and countryside villages. The special vividly captures today's Persian culture: from Friday prayer in a leading mosque to challenges confronting Iran's youth, from anti-American murals to the warmth and hospitality of a family dinner, and from the tranquility of rural life to the frenzied traffic of modern Tehran.

European Christmas (#106H) Duration: 57:16 STEREO TVG

From manger scenes and mistletoe to wintry wonderlands, this program celebrates the Christmas season throughout the European continent. Rick visits friends and families in England, France, Norway, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy to reveal their customs and practices of the holiday season.
He begins his travels in England, where the Christmas pudding is the real centerpiece of a traditional English holiday meal. In Paris, the Eiffel Tower heralds the season with its red, twinkling lights. In the countryside of Tuscany, villagers stack neat pyramids of wood for great bonfires. The lighting of the fires is a signal to villagers - dressed as shepherds - to come and sing old carols. This special offers a colorful, musical celebration of Christmas across Europe where viewers will learn about customs from "the old countries," hear local choirs, and discover holiday family traditions.
