The Heart of Pilates, a 60-minute pledge-drive special, focuses on the real-life application of Pilates and its many benefits, as experienced by actual students at a Los Angeles Pilates studio. A documentary style, reality-based visit to a Pilates mat exercise class, the program demonstrates what a student would experience and some of the benefits and insights the student could expect from a regular Pilates practice.
At the heart of this presentation is Kj Luker, the producer, writer, and instructor for The Heart of Pilates. Kj has developed her understanding through many years of training and study of Pilates, as well as extensive experience with yoga, running, weight lifting, and Cranial Sacral Therapy. Most importantly, she shares a background similar to many of her students she trains at her Pilates studio in Los Angeles. A victim of sciatica, extreme back pain, asthma, and a poor body image expressed through bouts with bulimia and considerable weight gain, Kj has traveled a long route -- much like the initially frail and sick Joseph Pilates himself -- to find that inner well of strength that would heal her physically and emotionally. Her gifts as an empathetic and patient teacher further help her to be the perfectly qualified voice of this remarkable training program.
The Heart of Pilates is an engaging journey, depicting Pilates as an evolution for any and all who regularly practice it. We meet students who have progressed, whose bodies have changed, whose confidence in how they move, think and work has increased. We see how Pilates has become an enjoyable part of their own lives, discovering that what you do in class today begins to immediately improve and enhance your daily life. Pilates is a way of empowering the sincere student on many levels, not the least of which is having a body that looks and feels fantastic.
What is Pilates? Pilates is a remarkably effective body science of fitness and healing. Used for generations by everyone from world-class athletes to enhance and improve their elite performance, to physical therapists and other medical professionals who use Pilates as a powerful rehabilitation tool, Pilates is accessible to everyone who wants to make a difference in their lives and bodies.
