    Curious George [#303]
    For The Birds/Curious George-Asaurus
    * For the Birds: George loves feeding the birds, but they must be starving, because all the seeds keep disappearing! Perplexed, George returns with more food, only to find a big, bushy tail sticking out of the feeder. It's Jumpy Squirrel, caught in the act of eating all the seeds! George tries to squirrel-proof the birdhouse, moving it further from the tree trunk, clearing away freestanding objects, and even developing a pulley laundry line system to hang it from. But to no avail - that squirrel can climb - and apparently eat - anything! Why does Jumpy keep taking the seeds? Has his appetite suddenly grown - or maybe they're not all for him? Educational Objective: To illustrate that all products and systems are subject to failure; and that many can be fixed through troubleshooting.
    * George-asaurus: Professor Wiseman needs the Man with the Yellow Hat's help to assemble some rare dinosaur bones into a skeleton in time for an important archaeologist, Dr. Raj Desai, to see them. Wiseman and the Man finish the task and meet Dr. Desai for lunch. Meanwhile, George and Gnocchi play outside with a toy plane, which floats though a window--landing on the newly assembled dinosaur. When George climbs the fragile bones to retrieve it, the entire skeleton collapses! Using another dinosaur as a model, George is able to organize, sort, and piece together the bones back into its proper form. But how will Dr. Desai feel about a monkey working on his precious dinosaur bones, especially when the wrong head ends up on the dinosaur's skeleton? Educational Objective: To sort and classify bones based on their shape and size. To develop an understanding of symmetry by reassembling the dinosaur bones so that each bone on one side of the body matches the equivalent bone on the other side (e.g., size, shape, location).

    $100 a Day
On December 9, 1991 Rick Walker was convicted and sentenced to 26 years in prison for a murder he did not commit. Linked to the crime by false testimony and questionable legal tactics, Walker would spend the next 12 years in some of California's most dangerous prisons. This documentary is a compelling story of gross injustice, political partisanship and the heroic struggle to prove Walker's innocence. Once exonerated, he would face yet another barrier to justice - the California State Legislature. Entitled to $100 for each day spent falsely imprisoned, Walker would become a pawn in the annual partisan battle over the California budget. Ultimately, this program is about hope - hope that in one man's quest for justice lays the inspiration for our elected officials to govern with the true strength of their convictions. duration 26:46   CC STEREO TVG

    Savage Planet [#101]
    Volcanic Killers
Volcanoes and water make dangerous bedfellows. Earth's 100 crater lakes - steaming, brightly colored, corrosive, bubbling with gas - are among the most exotic places on our planet. Mysterious and beautiful, they are also deadly, as the dazed survivors of the "exploding" volcanic Lake Nuyos in Cameroon, West Africa, testify. When volcanic debris and water mix together, they create destructive mudflows called lahars. It was lahars that caused New Zealand's worst railway disaster and destroyed 200 homes and swept away bridges in 1980 when Washington state's Mount St. Helens erupted. Unforgettable images and heart- rending stories from the Philippines demonstrate what typhoon rain and volcanic rock can do together. More people have died from lahars that flow each typhoon season than when the Philippines' Mount Pinatubo erupted. It is an ominous warning to those who live near volcanoes - as experts Professor Kelvin Rodolfo in the Philippines and Kevin Scott and David Zimbelman in Washington try to explain - and a threat hanging over one of America's most prosperous cities, Seattle. duration 55:53   CC STEREO TVG

    Frontline [#2605]
    The Medicated Child
Ten years ago, stimulants like Ritalin and Adderall were the drugs of choice to treat behavioral issues in children. Today children as young as four years old are being prescribed more powerful anti-psychotic medications that are much less understood. The drugs can cause serious side effects, and virtually nothing is known about their long-term impact. The increase in the use of anti-psychotics is directly tied to the rising incidence of one particular diagnosis -bipolar disorder. Experts estimate that the number of kids with the diagnosis is now more than a million and rising. As the debate over medicating children continues to grow, Frontline producer Marcela Gaviria confronts psychiatrists, researchers and big pharma about the risks and benefits of prescription drugs for troubled children. duration 56:26   CC STEREO DVI
