On the way there, the Conductor gives the kids a visual lesson in "Nature's Life Cycle," explaining how a flower grows, blossoms, then wilts, and returns its seeds to the ground, to start the cycle all over again. All of a sudden Mario Lopez, a reporter for EXTRA Sesame Street, appears and announces on his show that Cookie Monster is now the Veggie Monster! Cookie Monster, panicked, explains that even though he does love to eat healthy carrots, he is not the Veggie Monster. But everyone insists on calling him the Veggie Monster anyway. This makes Cookie Monster really unhappy. He decides to eat a cookie so that nobody will call him Veggie Monster anymore. He asks Big Bird and Snuffy if they have any cookies to eat, but all they have is birdseed, spaghetti, and cabbage. Cookie Monster tastes the cabbage for the first time and thinks it's delicious! Just then, Mario appears and reports that Cookie Monster is eating another vegetable. Cookie Monster tries to explain to Mario that just because he loves cabbage doesn't mean he is the Veggie Monster. Cookie Monster realizes that the only way he can eat vegetables is if he disguises himself. Cookie Monster eats celery in disguise, but Mario recognizes him and records it for all to see on Me Tube. Cookie Monster is upset and tells Mario how he is feeling frustrated because no one believes him. Cookie Monster sings a song about how no matter how much he loves vegetables, he'll always be who he is - Cookie Monster. A Trip to the Crayon Factory - Daniel Tiger, Miss Elaina, and Katerina Kittycat take a fun trip to the factory to see how crayons are made but, O the Owl can't come because he's sick. At the factory, the kids watch the crayons being made, and Daniel looks and listens closely.   Heat and Harvest: Impact of Climate Change On California September 28, 2012 From the vast fields of fruits and nuts in the Central Valley to the waterways of the Sacramento Delta - and many growing centers in between - climate change is beginning to take its toll on California agriculture. According to a recent report commissioned by the state EPA and Energy Commission, yields in key crops are expected to drop significantly over the coming decades as climate change alters key growing conditions. The list of crops most directly affected under business as usual conditions, assuming a 2 degree warming by 2050, reads like a walk through a supermarket produce section: yields of citrus crops in the San Joaquin Valley are expected to drop about 18% by 2050; grapes about 6%; cherries and other orchard crops about 9%. But this is not just a look into the state's future. California's farms, often called the nation's breadbasket, are already feeling the effects of the trifecta of converging forces prompted by climate change: shorter cold seasons, longer seasons of extreme heat, and dwindling water supplies. This multi-platform collaboration of the Center for Investigative Reporting and KQED's science and environment reporting teams will examine how climate change is already playing out in one of California's largest industries.   A number of new polls show President Barack Obama has opened up a significant lead over Republican nominee Mitt Romney in the battleground states of Ohio, Florida, and Pennsylvania. According to a New York Times/CBS News/Quinnipiac University poll, Mr. Obama holds a 10 point advantage over Mr. Romney in the must-win state of Ohio. Similarly, the president holds a 9 point lead over his Republican challenger in Florida and a 12 point lead in Pennsylvania.
  Early voting starts next week in Ohio so it's no surprise both candidates stumped for votes in the Buckeye State this week. For Mr. Romney, Ohio is pivotal to his presidential prospects. No Republican has ever won the White House without winning Ohio.

  Spark! [#516H] Favianna Rodriguez, Ben Levy and Julio Morales * Favianna Rodriguez is part of a tradition of Chicano graphic artists that dates back to the 60's. A 28-year-old self-taught artist, Rodriguez spent her teen years in Oakland's Fruitvale neighborhood attending free community art workshops. Spark watches as she creates silkscreen and offset posters and follows her to a Day Laborer's Conference to create dialogue around her latest work.
  * Though only 5 years old, LEVYdance has made a big splash in the SF dance community. The artistic director Ben Levy, a 29 year old UC Berkeley grad, was named one of the "Top 25 to watch" by Dance Magazine. Levy is choreographing a new work tentatively called "Patterns of Flight", based on the veiled past of his Iranian-Jewish parents. He's collaborating with composer Keeril Makan, couture designer Colleen Quen, and industrial furniture designer Rick Lee.
  * Laurie Antonioli is a singer and lyricist, and also a teacher. Last year she returned from a 4 year teaching stint near Vienna. Now heading the vocal department at Berkeley's Jazz School, Laurie is working with a new quartet to rehearse and record her collection of "new standards."
