Farmers' Markets: San Francisco Slideshow
San Francisco Ferry Plaza Farmers' Market
previous slide next slide
The Ferry Plaza Farmers' Markets are a project of the CUESA - Center for Urban Education about Sustainable Agriculture (http://www.cuesa.org). CUESA's mission is to promote regional sustainable agriculture through the operation of farmers' markets and educational programs.

The Ferry Plaza Farmers Markets were started in 1993 with the long-term goal of developing a permanent public market and education center, dedicated to sustainable agriculture, on the San Francisco waterfront. With the relocation to the Ferry Building, CUESA has achieved that goal.

The Ferry Plaza Market is one of the largest markets in the Bay Area. There is an incredible diversity of farmers and vendors (http://www.cuesa.org/markets/farmers/) and you will find an array of fresh produce, meats, seafood, eggs, cheese, pasta, plants and flowers, baked goods, specialty products, prepared foods from local restaurants and vendors, cooking demonstrations by local chefs, and a variety of music and entertainment.

On Saturdays, market-based education programs are offered such as Meet the Producer and Shop with the Chef where market shoppers can learn about a variety of topics, from the issues facing our regional farmers, to how produce is grown and how to cook with it.
