Queer Women of Color Media Arts Project

Madeleine Lim
Madeleine Lim is the founder and Artistic Director of Queer Women of Color Media Arts Project (QWOCMAP) in San Francisco. QWOCMAP promotes the creation and exhibition of films and videos that reflect the experiences, stories and lives of queer women of color, and that address the social and political issues pertinent to our communities. This June, QWOCMAP presents the 1st Queer Women of Color Film Festival at the LGBT Community Center in San Francisco, which showcases the art, culture, and resistance of queer women of color and our communities.

A Singapore-born filmmaker, Lim has over 15 years of film and video experience, and her films have been featured at international film festival circuits, universities, museums and broadcast on PBS. Lim received the Award of Excellence from the San
Jose Film & Video Commission in 1997 and won the Bronze Apple Award from the National Educational Media Network in 1998 for her poignant documentary "Sambal Belacan in San Francisco," a film about three Asian lesbians making a home in the United States, her film was banned in Singapore.

Lim was awarded California Arts Council's Artist-in-Residence from 2000-2003. Her digital- video training program was awarded the 2003 Best Video Program by the San Francisco Community Media. In 2004, she was awarded a Certificate of Honor by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in public recognition of distinction and merit for outstanding service to the people of San Francisco.
