Betty and Tom McCall Parents, Families & Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG)
Betty and Tom have been residents of Oakland since 1959, raising a family
of thirteen children. After Betty and Toms daughter came out twenty
years ago this month, they founded East Bay PFLAG for education and support
of coming out to family and friends. This led to sharing their experiences
as the parents of a gay child with many groups and with PFLAG chapter
board offices. Currently the McCalls respond to Helpline inquiries and
assist with the chapter newsletter. Their greatest satisfaction is the
role PFLAG has played in helping parents and their GLBT children become
more accepting, appreciative and loving of one another.
