Arnold White
Artist
Arnold White is a dedicated artist, social activist and humanitarian who works with school programs, juvenile hall facilities and public arts projects. He has been creating art for more than 50 years. White taught himself to cartoon when he was nine, and has been drawing, painting and sculpting ever since. His small gallery in Oakland, where he grew up, displays the broad range of his work, from brightly colored acrylic paintings to boldly colored painted rocks. His work is evident throughout the city of Oakland and includes the San Pablo Avenue Mural and a mural and wall sculpture at the West Oakland Youth Development Center. White believes in the power of art as a catalyst for social change, and so his work demonstrates the struggle of humanity and the search for justice. He seeks to take his art to people who have few opportunities to go to museums, particularly children, and regularly visits schools to make presentations about his art.
