As the executive director and co-founder of the Lorraine Hansberry Theatre, Quentin
Easter supervised the renovation and relocation of the theatre, a half-million-dollar
project that established the theatre as the first African American arts institution
located in the high-profile theatre district of downtown San Francisco. Under
his leadership, the theatre has built a large, multicultural audience that is
among the most diverse of any theatre in the region.
In its 25 years of existence, the theatre has produced more than 105 plays and its productions have earned numerous awards. The theatre has produced plays including: works of Nobel Laureates Toni Morrison and Derek Walcott; Pulitzer Prize-winning writers Charles Fuller, Alice Walker and August Wilson; large-scale musicals celebrating Duke Ellington, Bessie Smith, Lester Young and others; and award-winning dramas by James Baldwin, Langston Hughes, and the theatre's namesake, playwright Lorraine Hansberry.
Easter has served on numerous panels, including the California Arts Council's theatre, multicultural entry and advancement programs, and the San Francisco Arts Commission's Cultural Equity Grant program. Easter was also saluted by KGO-TV with its "Profiles in Excellence Award" for his community involvement and leadership.
