Jacqueline Rushing
Executive Director – Young Scholars Program
San Francisco (Bayview-Hunters Point), CA

Jacqueline Rushing
Jacqueline Rushing, an educator with master's degrees in education and education administration, seeks freedom for others through education. Since 1998, when she founded the Young Scholars Program in San Francisco, she has been guiding young adults and their families through the labyrinth of the college application and admissions process. What began as a college prep program with 100 students, has since transformed into a holistic college, leadership, mentoring and life preparation program now boasting 250 students from San Francisco and the Bay Area.

During the past five years, Rushing's commitment has helped 100 percent of the program's students graduate from high school and enroll in college. Eight-five percent or better have graduated from college within four-to-five years of college entrance. Sixty-five percent of the college graduates have gone on to professional or graduate schools.

Rushing's dedication to education and the betterment of the community has been recognized with more than 20 community awards, including the Jefferson Award in the Bay Area, the Innovators in Education award and four Who's Who Among America's Teachers awards. In addition, Rushing has been honored with proclamations from Willie. L. Brown, the State Senate, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newson.
