Oakland, CA
David Muhammad
Community leader, writer, mentor, minister, husband and father David Muhammad has helped many youths change their lives to fulfill their true potential. As the executive director of The Mentoring Center in Oakland, he promotes the concept of mentoring as a means to effectively transform the lives of at-risk youth.

In recognition of his efforts in violence prevention, Muhammad received the 2000 Community Leadership Award and Fellowship from the California Wellness Foundation, and the distinguished Next Generation Leadership Award from the Rockefeller Foundation.

Muhammad also serves on a number of community boards and commissions, including the Richmond Economic Development Commission, the California State Advisory Committee on Foster Care, the Richmond Police Department Community Board and the Juvenile Justice Study steering committee to study the development of a new juvenile hall.
