Bishop J.W. Macklin
Glad Tidings Church of God in Christ
Hayward, CA
Bishop J.W. Macklin founded the Glad Tidings Church in Hayward, CA in 1978 after
serving with his father, the late Pastor A.C. Macklin as an associate minister
at the New Sweet Home Church in East Palo Alto. The church has grown to more
than 1800 members and 40 active ministries.
Bishop Macklin served as Chairman of the Auxiliaries in Ministry Convention (AIM) representing five National Departments (Youth, Music, Sunday School, Missions & Evangelism) for more than a decade. As Chairperson of AIM, he provided leadership annually for thousands of delegates worldwide. He became Bishop in 1998 and later received an Episcopal appointment to provide strategic leadership to more than 55 churches. In 2004 Bishop Macklin was the recipient of his church's highest honor when he was elected to the General Board, the Presidium of the Church of God in Christ.
Bishop Macklin's unique presentation and approach to community problems and real life issues, has impacted urban America and the global village through seminars and conferences he leads and publications he has written. In 1992 Bishop Macklin established the Northern California Community Development Corporation (NCCD), which served as a catalyst in the transformation of South Hayward. Through economic development, neighborhood revitalization, and education, Bishop Macklin's visionary leadership empowered this marginalized community once riddled by crime and substance abuse. Today this neighborhood is known by many as the GT (Glad Tidings) Campus.
