General Information
- What is KQED's fiscal year calendar?
KQED's fiscal year runs from October 1st through September 30th.
- What is KQED's tax ID number?
KQED's tax ID number is 94-1241309.
- How do I get copies of KQED's 990, audited financial statements, or 501(c)3 determination letter?
To request a copy of any of these documents, please email fdn@kqed.org.
- What other foundations support KQED?
For a listing of our foundation supporters and examples of the different ways foundations support KQED, please request our latest Annual Report to the Community by emailing fdn@kqed.org.
- Does KQED receive support of any type from the United Way or other federated funds?
KQED receives support from generous individual donors through their United Way donor-directed funds. KQED does not receive United Way community grants.
Grantmaking Information
- How are "general operations" grants used?
General operations funds are used to support KQED's core services in KQED Public Television, KQED Public Radio, KQED.org, and KQED Education Network. This includes expenses for the local broadcasts of national programs such as Nova, Masterpiece Theater, All Things Considered, and Fresh Air with Terry Gross, as well as popular local productions such as This Week in Northern California and the Perspectives series.
- Can I make grants to support specific projects?
Yes, KQED welcomes designated grants to support specific initiatives in our four content areas: Television, Radio, Interactive, and Education Network. To learn more about projects currently in development, see our projects in fundraising.
Grant Recognition
- Can foundation grants be anonymous?
Support for general operations can be made anonymously. Grants to support specific television and radio programs are subject to funding disclosure guidelines set by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Public Broadcasting System (PBS), and National Public Radio (NPR). For more information about these guidelines, please email fdn@kqed.org.
- How are foundation grants recognized?
Foundation support for general operations and projects is recognized in the Foundation and Government Support section of our Annual Report and on the Annual Donor Wall at KQED's headquarters in San Francisco. Project-specific support may also be recognized on-air or in print or Web materials related to that project. KQED observes the following four guidelines for our on-air recognition:
1. No comparative or qualitative descriptions
2. No price information
3. No calls to action
4. No inducements to buy, sell, rent, or lease
