Reporter's Notebook: Looking Back on the RNC
ListenListen (RealMedia stream)
They're striking the sets in St. Paul and the McCain-Palin ticket is off and running. John Myers spent the past few days with California's delegation at the RNC. He looks back on a week that was part media spectacle, part political ritual and part sleepover camp for gleeful GOP partygoers from all over the Golden State.

McCain's Green Screen Mystery
ListenListen (RealMedia stream)
If you saw any close-ups of John McCain on Thursday night, you may have noticed him standing in front of what looked like a green screen. But some Internet detective work has revealed that what we saw on TV was actually part of a larger image projected behind him.

CD Review -- "That Lucky Old Sun"
ListenListen (RealMedia stream)
California's combination of heat, sand and ocean inspired Brian Wilson to write plenty of classic music in the 1960s -- and apparently it still does. Pop music critic Steve Hochman reviews the former Beach Boy's new release, "That Lucky Old Sun."

Music Bridge 2
"Pet Sounds" by the Beach Boys from the CD "Pet Sounds" (Capitol)

L.A.'s Push for Green Jobs
ListenListen (RealMedia stream)
Though it's known for crowded freeways and a polluting past, Los Angeles is dreaming of a future with green jobs for its poorest residents. That may sound like a feel-good Coca-Cola commercial from the 1970s, but that's exactly what L.A. is planning with a series of new laws to require more energy efficient buildings.

Could the RNC Swing California?
Now that the party's over and California's delegates are heading home, will anything that happened at the republican convention in St. Paul pull California out of the "sure win" column for the democrats this fall?

Academic Performance Numbers
State and federal academic performance numbers were released yesterday. California's top education official found a reason to be optimistic about how students are doing -- but the federal analysis isn't as positive.

Latinos and the RNC
Republicans believe John McCain can appeal to all kinds of voters who have been skeptical of GOP politics in the past. Nowhere is that belief more evident than in McCain's attempt to reach Latino voters, a strategy some think could help his chances in the Golden State.

High-tech Overtime
Buried deep in Governor Schwarzenegger's budget proposal are some changes in overtime policy for high-tech workers that have labor advocates fuming. While the computer industry says the changes would merely clear up confusion in the law, others fear the shift represents an erosion of worker protections.
