Career Highlights: Nina Thorsen came to KQED 88.5FM from Public Radio International's business program Marketplace, where she had been the deputy foreign editor since 1992. Before coming to Pacific Time, Nina Thorsen was an editor and producer for KQED-FM's local and statewide news service. Thorsen has worked in public radio for 21 years, including jobs as a classical music producer, a national programming associate for PRI, and box office and house manager for A Prairie Home Companion in her native Minnesota.
Thorsen is a graduate of the University of Minnesota with a B.A. in communications.
Her awards include recognition from the Radio-Television News Directors Association for her piece on the Japanese TV show Iron Chef. She has received a bronze medal from the New York International Radio Festival for co-producing Marketplace's "Berlin Week" and an honorable mention from the Overseas Press Club for producing "Bridge or Barrier: The Japanese Language," as well as sharing in Marketplace's duPont-Columbia Silver Baton.
Thorsen is also post-production coordinator for KQED 88.5FM's broadcasts of City Arts & Lectures.
