  The scientists at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) are already well-known for uncovering some of the most extreme marine animals in the deep sea, like the incredible vampire squid. But recently, they're using their unique blend of biology and engineering to study one of the least-discussed impacts of climate change: ocean acidification.

• Rising Seas

  What will global warming mean to the San Francisco Bay? QUEST explores how sea level rise could affect Bay Area wetlands, following researchers who are taking sediment cores from local marshes to discover climate history and to get a glimpse of the bay's future.

• Underwater Laboratory

  In Monterey Bay, scientists have successfully launched a deep sea laboratory that is unlike anything in the world. Scientists ran 32 miles of cable out from the Monterey shoreline to power remote research equipment such as robots, seismometers and real-time video of a world deep below the ocean.
