dogs eat a lot of food. that requires energy to produce. dogs crap a lot, which increases our landfill problems. dogs use water for baths. dogs shed a lot and energy is used to vacuum all that hair up.

dont get me wrong, i like dogs. but having one has nothing to do with energy efficiency.

Interesting factoid: From 1996 to 2007, the U.S. residential sale of kilowatt-hours per canine (dog) decreased by 8%. Dogs really do save energy.

(Maybe. Kilowatt-hour sales increased by 25%, but the canine population increased by 36%, while the human population of the U.S. only increased by 12%—lots more dogs, some more people, more energy use.)

Cats: In my observation, cats are even more stingy with energy than dogs. On any given day, ALL of a cat's activities can be summarized as an interruption of a nap.
