When it comes to alternative energy, most people think of solar or wind. But the hills just north of Sonoma wine country are a world leader in another kind of clean power, and under an ambitious new project, they are about to produce even more.

Nicely done spot! Always wondered what went on way up there. Is it Sonoma county? Calpine should be really pushing public awareness of this kind of now and future smart energy, because I have only witnessed their unforgiveably shabby performance of bullying in with that stupid coal fired plant in S San Jose! If they are at all concerned with their image, they need to take a high profile lead and get more citizens on board! I will look into Cal Energy Commisioin, please confirm if you were interviewing John Geesman (spelling?)
    Thanks!

Thanks for writing, Mark! The Geysers overlap the borders of Lake and Sonoma Counties. And here’s California Energy Commissioner John Geesman for you: http://www.energy.ca.gov/commission/commissioners/geesman.html

    Best,
    Amy

Very well done report. Clearly the Geysers is one of California’s hidden treasures that can be a big part of a clean energy future for the state.
One correction from Mark’s e-mail: The Metcalf plant in South San Jose is natural gas operated not coal. It is considered a clean and efficient plant when compared to other fossil fuel plants. For more info see:
