George Oiye (being pinned) and other members of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team receiving commendations while in the field. The 442nd RCT received over 18,000 medials, commendations and citations for bravery under fire, including twenty-one Medals of Honor.

George Oiye was a member of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team. He was assigned to the 522nd Artillery, a unit of the 442nd RCT. The 552nd was part of the infrantry that came upon Dachau Concentration Camp during the march in to Germany.

Yas Shimoguchi, 1945. Yas was drafted and assigned to the Military Intelligence Service during the last part of World War II. After the war, he used the GI Bill to earn a degree in diesel mechanics. Yas was the first Japanese American employee hired by Hewlett Packard.

Cesar Chavez at 18 years old, shortly after he enlisted into the US Navy in 1945. He had received a draft notice for the US Army but chose to serve in the Navy by enlistment.

Isidor Sanchez, Army portrait, 30th Division, 117th Regiment, Company F. Mr. Sanchez was born in Sonora, Mexico and grew up in San Jose, CA. He is a veteran of the D-Day invasion and was wounded twice during his tour of service.

Tomas Cortez as a 21 year old solider, during Basic Training at Camp Bowie Texas. Tomas Cortez was born in Ventura County, CA, the oldest son of a farm worker family. The Cortez family moved to the San Jose area in 1938.
