Intense Drama: Highway Tales
Judgement
Director David Winkler is the son of renowned filmmaker Irwin Winkler (producer of "Rocky"). Winkler landed Matthew McConaughey for the lead role right before he became famous. In fact, while production was in progress for this short, he landed the role as another deputy in John Sayles' "Lone Star." This American short film is set in Judgement, Texas, where nothing of significance ever happens -- until now. Deputy Sam Taylor pulls over a black man for speeding and finds that he fits the description of a suspected murderer. When a power outage makes it impossible to verify the man’s alibi, Taylor finds his sense of justice severely tested.
Lola
Lola is Steven Cowie's directing debut (he also wrote and produced it). Cowie attended film school at Cal State-Long Beach and now works freelance as a set production assistant in Hollywood. In this film, destiny and redemption meet a dusty crossroad. Life has dealt a young woman a lousy hand. Once again, Lola finds herself at rock bottom. She meets a mysterious drifter who offers to sell her some very unusual life insurance. With seemingly nothing left to lose, will she accept his offer? Lola appeared at New Orleans Film Festival and International Festival of Nations (Austria), among others.
Sally and Angela
Mark Wilkinson wrote, directed and edited this short film that was shot in four days in the California High Desert in Lucerne Valley using only natural light. Meet siblings Salvatore and Angela, two professional killers, who belong to the best in their business. Sally and Angela just want to get to their hit on time, knock off their guy and make it to Uncle Luigi's in time for dinner. Is that too much to ask? When their stolen car breaks down on the way to a hit, this tale of two sibling hot heads explodes in a conflagration of bullets and biting remarks. Consider yourself lucky not to have to attend Thanksgiving with these relatives! This film was screened at Palm Springs International Film Festival and Toronto Worldwide Film Festival.
