Intense Drama: Casualties of War

An Incident Near Falaise
Despite working on a shoestring budget, writer and director Aaron Feldman recreated a World War II patrol by using authentic uniforms and firearms. Rural Pennsylvania served as a stand-in for the French countryside. An Incident Near Falaise shows a young boy playing in a stream near his house in the French countryside. He discovers a shiny box in the river, opens it and finds World War II military artifacts. He is suddenly transported back in time to the summer of 1942 and a scene of bloody confrontation. This American short film won the World-Fest Gold Award and was screened at Canadian International Film Festival, Czech Republic Film Festival, Seattle International Film Festival, Belgium Festival of Short Films and Philadelphia International Film Festival.

Hero
At his directorial debut, former NYU student Mark Bamford takes us to the closing days of World War II. An embittered American soldier seeks his reward by looting an isolated German farmhouse -- or so he thinks. The secret that lies hidden behind a locked door, and the woman who holds the key, will change his life forever. The American film Hero appeared at Austin Film Festival and Athens International Film Festival.

The Reunion
Dwight Hwang directed, wrote and animated this American short film, which won an Emmy Award for Animation. The Reunion is a love story set during World War I in Paris and showing a young woman waiting for her beloved to return home from battle. This touching memorial to all those affected by war was screened at Cannes Emerging Filmmakers Showcase and Los Angeles Student Awards.

Atropos
Written, directed and edited by J.P. Lipa, who attended film school at NYU, Atropos plays at a German battlefield (doubled by the woods of Richmond, Massachusetts). The plot is about an African-American pilot who is forced to eject from his crashing B-17 bomber. He awakens from unconsciousness only to find himself hanging precariously by the straps of his parachute from a tree branch, fifty feet above the ground. To make matters even worse, he hopelessly watches below as German soldiers search for him.

A Letter From the Western Front
After attending NYU, animator Daniel Kanemoto has since worked on animations for Nickelodeon. In this film Kanemoto used Adobe PhotoShop, Adobe AfterEffects and watercolor paints to create this unique style of animation. A Letter From the Western Front takes us deep into the trenches of Belleau Wood, France. A young American soldier struggles to finish what may be his final dispatch home to his wife. Will his pen finish prior to his company's march across "no man's land" during World War I? Find out in this award-winning animated short that was included in Asian Animation Festival, Telluride Film Festival and New York Animation Festival, among many others.
