Steve Cowan (Executive Producer and Director) founded Habitat Productions as a project of the Tides Center, a tax-exempt non-profit organization in San Francisco. Steve has written and produced award-winning documentaries on marine conservation issues including Ancient Mariners, The Sea Turtle Story, a 60-minute television documentary acquired by National Geographic in 1999; Turtle Excluder Devices, Fishing Technology for the 90s, produced with the United Nations Environment Programme (won Best Educational Film at the International Wildlife Film Festival in 1996); Ancient Sea Turtles, Stranded in a Modern World, a 30-minute documentary exploring the impact of the shrimp fishing industry on endangered sea turtle populations (won 1999 CINE Golden Eagle, Bronze Apple and Merit Awards for Educational Value and Balanced Treatment of Controversial Issues, National Educational Film Festival, and finalist award at the 1998 International Wildlife Film Festival); Earth Command, an interactive CD-ROM addressing global environmental, trade and economic issues produced with Visionary Media Inc.
Barry Schienberg (Co-Producer, Camera, Editor) has shot and produced award-winning corporate, educational and broadcast television programs for over 18 years. Barry has shot and provided segments for news stories on marine conservation issues to PBS, CNN, ENN, Monterey Bay Aquarium, and the American Museum of Natural History. Corporate credits include Oracle, Microsoft, AT&T, Fireman's Fund, 3 Comm, Pacific Gas & Electric, Bay Area Rapid Transit, Golden Gate Transit, and Sybase. Barry’s broadcast work has been viewed on The Discovery Channel, PBS, A&E, Fox, and MTV. Recent documentaries include Harvest of Sorrow, Ancient Sea Turtles, and Pity the Pilot Whale.
Shara K. Lange (Associate Producer) has worked with Blackside Productions, Farallon Films, Counter Productions, and Eric Slade Productions. Shara graduated from Carleton College with course work in cultural studies, video, and art history.
Julie Yoon (Associate Producer) is an avid scuba-diver and naturalist, who has travelled extensively in South East Asia and the Pacific Islands. Julie studied Cultural Anthropology at UC Berkeley.
