Kathryn Baron
Morning Host and Reporter/Producer KQED Radio News

Kathryn Baron joined the staff of KQED Public Radio in 1997, after working several years as a freelance reporter for the station. Baron, a graduate of the Stanford University master's program in journalism, had her first reporting jobs in television. She then took a job as news writer at KCBS-AM before moving to public radio.

Baron also has written extensively for newspapers, magazines and the Pacific News Service. Her articles have appeared in Parenting, The Nation, San Francisco Business Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Berkeley Monthly, and the San Francisco Examiner and its Sunday magazine.

She is a four-time recipient both of the National Award for Education Reporting in Radio from the Education Writers Association and also the John Swett Award for Media Excellence from the California Teachers Association. Her work has also been recognized by the Society of Professional Journalists, the Associated Press Television and Radio Association, United Press International, the Radio-Television News Directors Association, Public Radio News Directors Incorporated, Peninsula Press Club, and the National Women's Political Caucus. She is also the recipient of an Armstrong Award for radio documentary.

Cheryl Colopy
Afternoon Host and Reporter/Producer KQED Radio News

Cheryl Colopy joined the staff at KQED Radio after several years of freelance reporting for KQED Radio, NPR, Monitor Radio and Pacifica Network News. Before joining the staff she served as acting senior editor for KQED Radio News for several months, and was the editor of KQED's Perspectives series from 1997 to 1999.

She got her start in radio at Pacifica affiliate KPFA in Berkeley in the early 1990s. Before that, she taught English literature and composition at the University of Hawaii, Cal State Chico, and UC Berkeley, where she received a Ph.D. in English with a specialty in Chaucer and Medieval literature.

Cheryl covers the environment beat for KQED Radio News and The California Report. She won the Society for Environmental Journalists' Ritzke Fellowship in 2000 as well as a Silver Cindy for stories on the environmental legacy of the California Gold Rush. Her 1999 hour-long documentary on welfare reform in California won a Clarion award, and in 1994 she won the John Swett Award for education reporting.
