| Scott Shafer, host, The California Report |
Scott Shafer has been host of The California Report since arriving at KQED in April 1998. He anchors the Monday through Thursday morning program and the Friday afternoon magazine. Shafer has won numerous journalism awards, including three honors for "outstanding radio journalism" from the Center for California Studies and "Best Interview" from the Public Radio News Directors Incorporated. Shafer also hosts the monthly call-in series Health Dialogues and anchors statewide election coverage.
Prior to joining KQED he worked in both commercial and public radio in Sacramento and San Francisco. He also served as chief of staff to then -- State Controller Gray Davis and as press secretary to former San Francisco Mayor Art Agnos. Just before joining KQED, Shafer was a principal in the San Francisco public affairs firm Staton, Hughes & Shafer.
