KQED Public Radio's "Health Dialogues" January Program Looks at Antibiotics

WHAT:
Health Dialogues, a special monthly report airing as part of KQED's statewide news program The California Report and hosted by Scott Shafer, engages listeners in an on-going discussion of California health care issues that are crucial to the state's under-served people.

January 2005 topic: Antibiotics
Antibiotics have been called wonder drugs because of their effectiveness against some of the world's deadliest diseases. But overuse has caused a growing problem of antibiotic resistance. We'll explore efforts to cut back on their use, both in humans and in farm animals. Also, we'll take a look at why there are so few new antibiotics in the pharmaceutical pipeline and the potential health crisis that looms ahead.
