Santa Cruz police say significant evidence has been collected at the scenes of two fire-bombings that targeted scientists at UC Santa Cruz over the weekend. The bombings appear to be linked to animal rights activists who object to scientific research on animals. The FBI, state and local police are offering a reward and searching for suspects in connection with the weekend attacks.

Several hundred dignitaries, members of the military and spectators crowded an Alameda dock today to commission the Coast Guard's newest and most sophisticated ship - the Bertholf. It is the first new Coast Guard ship in more than four decades. It's also one of eight new national security cutters that are bigger, faster, and better armed than the current fleet.

The Yahoo board of directors got an earful from angry shareholders today at the company's annual meeting. Yahoo's board defended its decision earlier this year to reject Microsoft's 43-billion dollar takeover offer. Today's meeting in San Jose was the first since Yahoo rejected that bid.
