Activists Protest Predatory Evictions

Eviction protesters in downtown San Francisco.

Anti-foreclosure activists are taking to San Francisco streets this week  on behalf of homeowners facing eviction.

They say too many borrowers are having unnecessary trouble trying to deal with lenders.

Denise Collins of San Francisco's Bayview neighborhood says she had reached a deal for a loan modification, only to find her lender had sold her loan to another firm.

"It's just the same old story with them," she says.  "And I'm very fed up!"

The California Homeowner Bill of Rights, signed into law last month, would address some of these issues.  But it doesn't go into effect until January 1st.  That's too late for Collins and others now in her situation.
