The One About Faith and a Band of Masked Men

Suzie Racho and David Wiegand scout the Bay Area for things to do this coming weekend and turn up faith, illuminations, comedy, and much more!

Paloma Faith

September 18, 2012
Rickshaw Stop

Adele, the Queen of British soul singers, is taking a break from music to focus on baby-making. This leaves room for a successor, which very well might be Paloma Faith. She will be playing songs from her 2009 debut Do You Want the Truth or Something Beautiful, as well as her new album Fall to Grace, at the Rickshaw Stop on Tuesday night. Get into it before everyone else does! For tickets and more information, visit rickshawstop.com.

30 Years of Headlands Center for the Arts

noon - 5pm, September 15, 2012
Fort Barry Parade grounds

Turning 30 really freaks people out, but, due to a ridiculous amount of attractions and distractions, there will be no time for breakdowns when the Headlands Center for the Arts celebrates their milestone this Saturday. There will be a game of edible chess, hikes led by artists, photo opportunities on top of the T-Rex Tiger, and music by Jeffrey Manson, Magic Magic Roses, and Spencer Owen. And that's just the tip of the iceberg! For tickets and more information, visit headlands.org.

The New Century Chamber Orchestra

September 17 - 20, 2012
Various Bay Area locations

Fresh off wowing crowds with the SF and NYC Operas, Melody Moore is reuniting with the New Century Chamber Orchestra to commemorate the 100th anniversary of composer Benjamin Britten. The ensemble will play several shows throughout the Bay Area from Monday to Thursday. For the full list of performances and tickets, visit ncco.org.

Comedy Day in the Park

noon - 5pm, September 16, 2012
Golden Gate Park's Sharon Meadow

All this election bickering got you stressed out and feeling down? Well, it sounds like you could use a good laugh. Thankfully for you, this Sunday marks the 32nd annual Comedy Day in the Park, featuring Will Durst, Larry Bubbles Brown, Brian Copeland, Tom Ammiano, among others. And it's free! For the full list of performances and tickets, visit comedyday.org.

Chris Kattan

September 20 - 23, 2012
Cobb's

You might remember seeing Kattan bopping his head at the Roxbury or acting like a deranged Neanderthal on SNL. See if time has tamed Kattan or if he's as crazy as ever, when he brings his act to Cobb's from Thursday through Sunday. For the full list of performances and tickets, visit cobbscomedyclub.com.

Los Straitjackets

September 14 - 16, 2012
Various Bay Area locations

Get your luchadore masks ready 'cause Los Straitjackets, the band that Eddie Angel and Danny Amis started in Nashville almost twenty years ago, are coming to the Bay Area and sticking around all weekend! For the full list of performances and tickets, visit straitjackets.com.
