Echo Test -- September 2009, Pt. 2
View Gallery Crawl video featuring Mel Kadel's Echo Test exhibition at Fecal Face Dot Gallery.
In September 2009, Gallery Crawl interviewed Mel Kadel about her Echo Test exhibit at Fecal Face dot Gallery in San Francisco. Originally from Pennsylvania, Kadel creates mysterious, yet familiar imagery partly inspired by her childhood. She uses a recurring female character of an indeterminable background to construct a positive narrative of human struggle. Working with pens no thicker than an eyelash, Kadel's metaphorical scenes are intricately detailed using a muted color palette that has the quality of a faded memory. For Echo Test, Kadel experimented with creating both color and black-and-white versions of similar drawings, allowing them to mirror (or echo) one another.
Echo Test is on view through October 10, 2009.
