Strange Fruit -- September 2009, Pt. 1
View Gallery Crawl video featuring The Date Farmers' Strange Fruit exhibition at Fifty24SF Gallery.
In September 2009, Gallery Crawl interviewed The Date Farmers to learn more about their collaborative process, the intentions fueling their multi-media art practice, and their new exhibit at Fifty24SF Gallery, Strange Fruit. Growing up in the desert town of Indio, California, The Date Farmers weren't surrounded by an artist community, but they recognized each other as creative types and began making work together under a name that referenced a job they held before becoming professional artists. Found objects, Mexican and American cultures, and folk art influences drive the aesthetics of their work, which touches on issues of social injustice. Their new exhibit includes mixed media wall pieces, sculpture, and video.
Strange Fruit is on view through September 24, 2009.
Please note: Each month we release one episode featuring two galleries. This month we will begin releasing two episodes, each featuring just one gallery. Enjoy!
