Gallery Crawl

Landscaping -- August 2009

View Gallery Crawl video featuring the August 2009 exhibition of Carl Auge's paintings at Rowan Morrison Gallery in Oakland and an interview with artist Vaughn Bell about her show with painter Josh Keyes, Natural Selection, at the Swarm Gallery.

In August 2009, Gallery Crawl interviews Carl Auge to discover the stories behind his paintings. Auge works with found images and architectural studies to create large-scale paintings of urban landscapes that are layered with meaning, both on the surface and in viewers' own interpretations. Landmarks, monuments, and visual representations of sound are inspirations for his work. Nearby at Swarm Gallery, Vaughn Bell discusses the adoption process for her micro-environments, then demonstrates how to take a mountain for a walk. Josh Keyes's paintings illustrate potential animal habitats of the future, joining Bell's work in a two-person show titled Natural Selection. In the gallery's project room, Reenie Charriére turns detritus and audio recordings of ocean sounds into a multi-sensory installation called Washed Up.
