Position Summary
The Manager of External Affairs is responsible for maintaining and building relationships with community members and organizations on behalf of NCPB's stations.
Position Accountabilities
1.Plans, creates and executes public screenings and discussions related to content. This includes identifying technical needs, promotion, publicity, catering, identifying moderators and speakers (when appropriate) and others. The Coordinator is expected to do at least 15 events per year.
2. Identify outreach activities related to specific programming and determine appropriate community -based partners.
3. Builds partnerships for the stations in order to respond to community needs.
4. Directs the Community Advisory Panel (CAP), a 24-member volunteer group who provide input into community matters facing the organization, as well as seeking out opportunities to engage with KQED audience members to solicit feedback about the station's efforts.
5. Lead 4 CAP meetings per year.
6. Responsible for identifying new CAP members, including shepherding candidates through the approval process with the NCPB Board of Directors
7. Organize CAP activities throughout year for outreach; act as liaison between CAP and organization for servicing of invitations to functions throughout year; identify additional possible roles for individual CAP members in relation to other company functions (Board, committees, other.)
8. Directs the Docent program, which provides tours of the NCPB facilities.
9. Works with the Corporate Support team in the planning and execution of the organization's Heritage events throughout the year.
10. Heritage - Arrange for a CAP member to participate in the nomination process; Send call for nominations out to partners and other lists maintained by Coordinator; Participate as a member of the selection committee; Inform the honorees of their selection; Act as liaison between event staff and honorees, relaying info about the event, gathering bios and photos from honorees, being available for questions and concerns, compiling charity information when sponsor makes donations in the honorees' names; Coordinate proclamations from selected elected officials; Greet honorees at event.
11. Provide support for the Communications Department team and directly assists the Executive Director of Communications as needed. (8 Hours per week)
12. Shares responsibility with the NCPB publicist in attending, on a bi-monthly basis, the meetings of the Bay Area Public Affairs Directors.
Position Requirements
1. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
2. Must have access to a reliable motor vehicle and be willing to travel to attend events
3. Must have excellent public speaking skills
4. Thorough knowledge of MS Word, Powerpoint and Excel necessary
5. Must be highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
6. Must have a demonstrated ability to lead and influence others as well as to build consensus among a group.
7. Demonstrated ability to work as a part of a team as well as independently a must.
Knowledge/Experience Desired
1. BA Degree or comparable experience in Public Relations or related field preferred
2. Public relations experience a plus
