Assistant Director Facilities and Central Services

Position Summary

Utilizing critical building maintenance systems, this individual will be responsible for day-to-day operation of building systems, including HVAC, electrical and plumbing needs. This position will work on projects ranging from local, state and federal compliance, building equipment and systems efficiencies as well as office moves, adds and changes. This position is responsible for leadership and direct supervision of all maintenance and central services staff.

Position Accountabilities

1. Manages and directly supervises utility maintenance, housekeeping, central services, and parking staff and operations.
2. Supervises in-house staff in day-to-day maintenance of building systems (HVAC, electrical, and plumbing).
3. Utilizes technology to control and schedule operation of HVAC equipment and systems.
4. Spot-checks building cleanliness at the beginning of each shift to identify immediate needs for housekeeping support.
5. Meet with City and State inspectors on a recurring basis to document inspection finding and manage compliance efforts.
6. Compliance with local, state and federal regulations regarding health and safety including documentation of consistent compliance and ensuring that all permits are renewed timely.
7. Ensures that Facilities Services Department provides timely support for all NCPB events
8. Represents the department in business event planning meetings and discussions and ensures that facilities staff, equipment, and contractors are scheduled in support of events.
9. Under close guidance from the director, supervises office adds, moves, and changes, coordinates IT and phone moves, manages move schedules, and allocates labor resources.
10. Manages staff schedules to achieve greatest efficiency in utilization of staff skills in meeting departmental responsibilities.


Knowledge/Experience Desired

1. Demonstrated supervisory and team management skills and experience is required.
2. Excellent Computer skills in MS Word and Excel as well as other database packages
3. Experience managing in a union setting.
4. Prior experience supporting or managing skilled trades workers and tasks desired.
5. Must be able to use computer-based control programs that operate critical facilities systems and equipment.
6. Ability to manage and organize projects with a strong attention to detail required.
7. Must have flexibility to work different shifts in a given week
8. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50lbs
9. Knowledge of Building Systems (ie HVAC, Security systems)
10. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as strong interpersonal skills.
11. Must possess and maintain current a valid CA drivers license with a good driving record.
12. BA degree in related discipline, previous applicable experience may be considered in lieu of 4 year degree
