Forum Internship

Internship Summary:
"Forum" is a live daily public affairs program hosted by Michael Krasny and Dave Iverson and broadcast in the San Francisco Bay Area and throughout Northern California. This award-winning program presents balanced discussions of local, state, national, and world issues as well as in-depth interviews with leading figures in politics, science, entertainment, and the arts. Interns are vital to the production of "Forum" and will train closely with the producers in shaping the show. Interns must be enrolled in a college or university program. Practical Training internships are also available to individuals not associated with a formal academic program. The Spring term is from January through May, the Summer term is from June through Mid-September, and the Fall term is from Mid-October through Mid-January. Interns must be willing to commit to two 8-hour periods a week (no weekends) for four months.
Internship Duties:
go Research program topics and offer show ideas
go Conduct preliminary phone interviews with potential guests
go Provide production assistance during live broadcasts
go Perform routine administrative tasks
Internship Qualifications:
go Some prior journalism experience is desired
go Strong interest in the news and a familiarity with Bay Area, California, national and international current events.
go Solid writing, interviewing, and communication skills
go Reliability and professional demeanor
Application Procedure:
go Applications may be submitted for the Spring, Summer, or Fall term internships. Please indicate which term and which radio internship program that interests you.
go To apply, include a cover letter of interest, a resume, and additional materials relevant to the qualifications (clips, other writing, etc.) listed above.
go For applicants to multiple Public Radio Practical Training Internships - Instead of submitting multiple cover letters and resumes, we prefer for you to submit ONE joint package for all the internships you're interested in. The package should include ONE resume, the required materials for each internship, and ONE cover letter describing and comparing your interest in the different opportunities. Please label CLEARLY your supplemental materials for "The California Report" in this application packet.
go Spring 2008 term application deadline is December 15, 2007; Summer 2008 term application deadline is March 1, 2008; and Fall 2008 term application deadline is June 15, 2008.
