Internship Summary:
KQED's Interactive department develops content and applications for digital platforms including the Web, interactive television and mobile devices. Since 1994, KQED.org has provided users with a place to interact, learn more, and connect with others on the issues and topics explored on radio and television. This is an exciting opportunity to help contribute to one of the most popular Web sites in public broadcasting. KQED.org is committed to deliver high-quality, non-commercial media that informs, educates and entertains, to an increasingly wider audience through the development of original online content.

Internship Duties:

  • Digitizes, logs and edits programs to be podcast-ready, using Final Cut Pro or similar software.
  • Compresses and encodes media files for streaming or downloading.
  • Conducts outreach campaign to build awareness of KQED's podcasts through participation on blogs, online discussions, social networks and related activities.
  • Searches the Web & directories for relevant, quality content (podcasts, video, blogs, etc.).
  • Reports on local events for KQED.org.
  • Creates Google map and photo slideshows for KQED.org.
  • Prepares images and implements site updates via content management system (CMS) and HTML for KQED.org.
  • Analyzes and reports site wide Web traffic statistics and trends.
  • Participates in team editorial and operations meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Internship Qualifications:

  • The right candidate must be passionate about public media and social media.
  • The ideal candidate has knowledge of Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, video compression tools, and basic HTML.
  • Strong organizational and research skills.
  • Ability to work independently on tight deadlines and to balance multiple projects.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience using Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as strong experience conducting online research.
  • Understanding of podcasting is helpful.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn basic HTML a plus.
